Egg & embryo vitrification

The egg is the largest cell in the body and is contained mostly of water. The problem with freezing eggs using the standard slow cryopreservation technique has been that as the temperature drops below freezing point, ice crystals form inside the egg and cause damage to the genetic material.

Vitrification is a modern cryopreservation technique based on sudden cooling of reproductive cells to a temperature of -196 ° C in seconds.

It uses a medium containing high doses of cryoprotective substances that protect cells against damage. Scientists have shown that 90%-95% of eggs can survive the new freezing method compared with 50%-60% using conventional methods.

The embryologists at Altravita were early leaders in the field of egg and embryo vitrification.

We now exclusively use this technique for cryopreservation of eggs and embryos.

Altravita IVF laboratory continues to work on cutting edge technology insuring successful outcomes of our treatment programs with vitrified eggs and embryos.

Our techniques for vitrification have generally demonstrated an average of 98 % survival at thaw.
